History
Portland has a rich and diverse history that is worth exploring

Early 2000s
The phrase “Keep Portland Weird” was inspired by the “Keep Austin Weird” movement in Austin, Texas, which promoted local businesses and creative culture.

2003
Terry Currier, owner of Music Millennium, brought the slogan to Portland after learning about the Austin initiative.
He began using it to support local and small businesses in the Portland community.

2007
Currier officially trademarked the phrase “Keep Portland Weird.”
He printed the first bumper stickers, selling over 10,000 by the end of the year.

2011
Local media reported that more than 18,000 bumper stickers had been distributed.
A large mural of the slogan was painted across from Voodoo Doughnut in Old Town, a popular area for foot traffic.
